About Melissa

Melissa J. Brooks was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1989 and currently lives, works, and studies at Iowa State University where she is attaining her Master of Architecture degree, expected graduation May 2017.

Architecture is the field that best combines her passions for art and the physical environment.  At Iowa State, Melissa has had the opportunity to explore mixed used housing, net-zero design,  and restorative work.

In 2011, she received a Bachelors of Arts from Pomona College in Environmental Analysis with an emphasis in sustainable design and politics.  Her education also includes courses at the University of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, Grinnell College, and the Des Moines Art Center.

Melissa is also an up and coming multimedia artist who is inspired by a variety of things including environmental issues, film, and design.In fall 2011, she assisted in the creation of “The Toy Theater” a public mural in Washington D.C.  designed by Congressional Painter, Peter Waddell. Melissa has also shown works at Fusion Day Spa in Washington D.C. Before continuing her education she brokered artwork for a prominent urban contemporary gallery (Thumbprint Gallery) in San Diego, California as well as worked in marketing.
